Podcasters, Dynamic Ads on YouTube? Yes please, amirite?

YouTube is working on a new feature that could change the game for podcasters everywhere.

Imagine this - dynamic mid-roll ads that we can control!

I mean, come on, who wouldn’t want the power to swap out ads in our podcast episodes with the ease of changing our socks?

YouTube’s working on an ad tech solution that lets us do just that, making it possible to update ads without the hassle of re-uploading our content.

Find out why this is such a big deal for podcasters as Amelia Knight talks us through the latest developments from the video hosting platform.

Speaker A:

YouTube is about to make a quiet little move that could cause big waves in the podcasting world.

Speaker A:

Hi there, this is Podcasting Insights.

Speaker A:

I'm Amelia Knight from Podnos Podcasting.

Speaker A:

You might have seen headlines about YouTube finally taking podcasting seriously again, but this time it might be quite significant.

Speaker A:

Here's what's happening.

Speaker A:

YouTube is apparently working on a new ad tech solution that will allow dynamic insertion of post read ads, much like we can do in some podcast hosting dashboards.

Speaker A:

At the moment.

Speaker A:

That means creators, including podcasters, will be able to swap out ads in their videos, including full podcast episodes without having to re upload them.

Speaker A:

So yes, like we can in Captivate and Buzzsprout and other podcast hosting companies, these will be mid roll ads that you could update whenever you like.

Speaker A:

Want to run a time sensitive campaign?

Speaker A:

Easy.

Speaker A:

You can do it.

Speaker A:

Want to ditch that outdated sponsor?

Speaker A:

Read done.

Speaker A:

If YouTube does manage to pull this off, it could finally give us podcasters that monetization control we've been begging for on the platform.

Speaker A:

And frankly, this has been a big reason why some podcasters have been very resistant to uploading their content on YouTube.

Speaker A:

They want to control what is advertised there, and rightly so.

Speaker A:

You work hard on your content.

Speaker A:

Now let's be clear, this feature isn't live yet, it's just something that YouTube has confirmed they're working on.

Speaker A:

If you are a podcaster who is using YouTube or maybe planning to, now is the time to get your strategy sorted.

Speaker A:

Start thinking about what kind of ad placements you might want to put in there.

Speaker A:

Think about what a dynamic mid roll might look like for your show.

Speaker A:

Now.

Speaker A:

It's not just about sound and most importantly, start working on your YouTube presence before this goes live.

Speaker A:

If you found this episode useful, be sure to follow or hit subscribe in whatever podcast app you listen to and share this with a fellow podcaster who's still very unclear around YouTube.

Speaker A:

The podmaster is a Podnos production.

Podcasting Insights with The Podmaster: growth advice for people and brands
Helping you attain podcasting mastery
Are you a brand or individual who's looking to improve and grow your podcast? You're in the right place. Together, we'll help you attain 'podmastery'.
Podcasting is such a complex medium, with so many factors that can impact your success. It's my goal to cover all these topics with you, and help you maximise the results you're getting from your efforts.
My name is Neal Veglio and I've been in the podcasting game since 2001, when I became the first person in the UK to upload audio of my then radio show online, and generate an audience.
This audience followed me throughout my radio career and engaged with my various other podcasts.
But it wasn't always easy.
And when I took a career break from radio for a few years in 2007, I had to learn how to build audience without the lift of an FM frequency.
I learned a lot from that experience.
I now help other podcasters to achieve their goals through my company Podknows Podcasting.
Each episode, I'll be offering you some insights into what I've done and what I've helped my clients do with our podcasts in the hope we can help YOU increase your podcast's chances of becoming more successful!
And ensuring you can avoid the dreaded 'podfade'!

Neal Veglio

As the UK's longest serving podcaster (having started in 2001 before it was even known as a 'thing') I've seen a lot of changes to the industry. Having launched more than 100 podcasts over the years, I help brands and entrepreneurs to get their marketing messaging out 'in the wild', but in a compelling, not boring way.
